Hyderabad, India: Second-seeded Taufik Hidayat of Indonesia will take on Muhammad Hafiz Hashim of Malaysia in the men final Indian Open badminton tournament.

Hidayat, former world and Olympic champion, easily beat Indonesia Tommy Sugiarto 21-13, 21-11 Saturday semifinal while Hashim overcame 19-year-old Long Chen of China 21-18, 19-21, 21-15.

In the women's semis, top-ranking Hongyan Pi of France defeated sixth step higher Yu Hirayama of Japan 21-7, 21-14 in a final against Julia Xian Pei Wong of Malaysia, whobeat Bei Zhang Wen Singapore 19 -21, 21 -13, 21-15.

Hashim was a tough opponent in Chen, who had beat top-ranked Lee Chong Wei from Malaysia in the first round.

Organizing Committee Secretary Punnaiah Choudhary told the Indian Express that Carl Baxter and Rajiv Ouseph, seeded 11 and 12, had withdrawn from the March 24-29 event in Hyderabad.
